Boston Common is the oldest park in the United States and is comprised of over 40 acres of land. Considered the anchor of the Emerald Necklace, it has been used as both grazing land and also as an encampment for British troops.

Massachusetts State House can be found on Beacon Hill. Home of the famed Sacred Cod, it’s beautifully crafted copper dome stands proudly for all to see. The land on which it is situated was once owned by John Hancock.

Prior to the revolution, grain was once housed in the old town granary whose land is now home to the Park Street Church. Located at 1 Park Street; Park Street Church, dates back to 1809 and recently had its Bicentennial in 2009.

The Granary Burial Ground is home to the remains of Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Robert Treat Paine along with countless other Governors, Mayors and Officials. This is the third oldest burying ground in Boston dating back to 1660.

On a corner of the burying ground, is King’s Chapel which was commissioned by King James II to help establish the Church of England in Colonial America. The Chapel has the distinction of being located on the oldest burying place in Boston.

Located on School Street is the statue of Benjamin Franklin, who was once a student of the oldest public school in America. In 1645, the Boston Latin School was established and produced some esteemed alumni such as Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Robert Treat Paine. The Boston Latin School now resides in the Fenway area of Boston.

Built by Dr. Thomas Crease after the great fire of 1711, the Old Corner Bookstore was once an apothecary shop. The Old Corner Bookstore became both a bookstore and printing shop in 1828 and has printed the works of many of America’s fine authors.

Thousands of Bostonians once met in the Old South Meeting House to condemn the taxable tea anchored at Griffin’s Wharf leading to the Boston Tea Party. Once a Puritan Meeting House, the largest colonial building in Boston, dates back to 1729 and serves as a museum and also as a distinguished landmark in American History.

The Old State House, once home to the Royal Governor of Boston is also known as the place where the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence took place. Built in 1713, this building was occupied by the British in revolutionary times and today it now serves as a Boston History Museum ran by The Bostonian Society.

A small ring of stones marks the infamous home of The Boston Massacre. When British Troops met with Angry Colonists, a melee ensued leaving 5 colonists dead and many patriots united.

Funded by Peter Faneuil, a rich merchant, Faneuil Hall has stood the test of time since its building in 1742. Many a patriot delivered speeches to the masses in this famous building which originally served as both a meeting hall and marketplace.

Serving as the oldest building in downtown Boston is the famed house of Paul Revere. This structure dating back to approximately 1680, has been restored by the Paul Revere Memorial Association having served as his residence from 1770 -1800.

Located on the hill, is the second oldest burial ground in Boston known as Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Named after shoemaker William Copp, the hill was once home to a windmill. Many Bostonians are said to be buried here after it was established in the year 1659.

The USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship afloat, is harbored in the Charleston Navy Yard. This shipyard was one of the first built in the United States and has serviced its country for over 174 years. The Constitution, famously nicknamed “Old Ironsides” after its encounter with four British Frigates during the war of 1812, was commissioned by George Washington along with six others.

Standing 221 feet tall on the site of America’s first major battle is the Bunker Hill Monument. Considered a British victory, the British suffered a heavy loss of 1,000 casualties to the then Colonial Militia which defended Breed’s Hill in Charleston before being forced to retreat.

Last year, almost 30,000 travelers took an escorted vacation with one of the three divisions of Mayflower Tours. Each Mayflower Tour has a professional Tour Manager on board to ensure the trip goes smoothly. Mayflower Tours works closely with travel agents to sell to individual travelers throughout the world. The company offers free marketing support in the form of travel presentations, videos, customized promotional flyers and newsletter articles.

John and Mary Stachnik started Mayflower Tours in 1979. John, president and co-owner of Mayflower Tours, entered the travel industry in 1966 when he began working for a Washington D.C.hotel company. From 1970-1978 John was founder, part owner and president of an Illinois-based tour company which grew to more than 36,000 passengers a year.
