Join us on a journey to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the battles made famous by Union General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General P.G.,T. Beauregard. Trace history through Tennessee and Mississippi to the battlefields where brave soldiers gave their lives.

Highlights

Here is the second in a series of five annual tours to Civil War sites on their 150th anniversary. On our 2012 departure explore the hallowed grounds of Tennessee with special emphasis on the re-enactment of the Battle of Shiloh. Travel on one or all of the remaining programs over the next four years. Special memorabilia will be in store for every traveler

  1. History Awaits Us
    Join us as we embark on a journey to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh which begins in Memphis. Meet your Tour Manager at 6:00 p.m. for a welcome dinner with your travelling companions. (Dinner)

  1. 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh
    Today is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh. Originally fought over 2 days in 1862, the Battle of Shiloh saw Union General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard wage what was the costliest battle of the time with well over 23,000 casualties incurred on both sides. The reenactment will take place on hallowed ground, where Confederate troops camped the night before the battle, adjacent to Shiloh National Military Park. Later, we return to Memphis. (Breakfast and box lunch)

  1. Mississippi River Cruise and Memphis
    Today, we climb aboard the Memphis Queen riverboat for a narrated cruise along the Mighty Mississippi. We’ll learn about the tales of river life as spun by Mark Twain, the S.S. Sultana steamboat (one of the worst American maritime disasters to date) and listen to the story of Hopefield, Arkansas come to life. Later, enjoy the afternoon and evening on your own in Memphis, the "Home of the Blues." (Breakfast)

  1. Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center and Buttonwillow Church Dinner Theater
    This morning we visit the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center where we view a multi-media presentation of the Battle of Shiloh and see a video of the Battle of Corinth which explains the key role Corinth played in the American Civil War. Tonight, history comes alive at the Buttonwillow Church Civil War Dinner Theater. Surrounded by the elegance of a beautiful antebellum-style hall, we’ll take a step back into 1864 with a delicious meal from authentic Confederate Whitehouse recipes and a moving production of Granddaddy’s Watch, as only Buttonwillow can do it. (Breakfast and dinner)

  1. Chickamauga National Military Park and the “Battle Above the Clouds”
    We begin the day with a visit to America’s first and largest National Military Park at Chickamauga. The park commemorates Civil War soldiers from both sides and features an audiovisual presentation and houses the Fuller Gun collection. High atop Lookout Mountain the Battles for Chattanooga Museum includes an electronic map of the area’s battles and a visit to Park Point is highlighted by James Walker’s painting The Battle of Lookout Mountain also known as the “Battle Above the Clouds.” (Breakfast)

  1. Falcon Rest Mansion and the Battle of Franklin
    Today we are greeted by Gen. John Hunt Morgan and are invited to his Honeymoon Ball in beautiful Falcon Rest Mansion, aptly called “Tennessee’s Biltmore.” The town of Franklin was the scene of the five bloodiest hours of the American Civil War. We’ll visit Carnton Plantation and learn how this home was used as a field hospital for wounded Confederate soldiers while the battle raged on around it. A stop at Carter House shows us a modest brick home, riddled with bullet holes. It was commandeered and used as a Federal command post. Tonight we enjoy dinner and musical entertainment at the Opryland Resort. (Lunch and dinner)
