Come along as we travel by rail on a breathtaking journey through the untamed
Wild West, the art colony of Sedona and the unparalleled beauty of the Grand
Canyon.
Montezuma Castle National Monument and Jerome
Your journey starts in the mountains of Arizona. Just outside
of Phoenix, carved into a limestone cliff, is a five-story,
20-room ancient Indian dwelling, which remains one of the best
preserved cliff dwellings in North America. Ironically, it’s
not a castle and Montezuma was never here, but this amazing
structure will give you a unique glimpse into the lives of
the prehistoric Sinaqua tribes. Then your travels move ahead
to the bustling 1800s with a stop at an old mining town. Enter
Jerome, population 450. Back in its heyday, Jerome was a melting
pot for those who dreamed of making a quick fortune. But today,
this lively little town is a fun stop along the trail.
All Aboard the Grand Canyon Railway
Explore this great canyon from the perspective of the vintage
Grand Canyon Railway. From your seat, you’ll watch the ever-changing terrain, from high desert
to prairie to pine, as you ride into the heart of Grand Canyon National Park.
You’ll thrill to the sheer size and colorful scenery
and be charmed by the stories the train crew tell of Grand
Canyon folklore as well as history. Strolling musicians bring
on the lively entertainment en route.
Enchanting Sedona
Some say Sedona is one of the most spiritual places on earth.
Its breathtaking beauty fills the senses and soothes the soul.
You’ll have an opportunity
to experience it all as you discover the awesome majesty of this artist’s
colony, set amidst the red rocks of Oak Creek Canyon with a four night stay in
downtown Sedona. You’ll step aboard the Sedona Trolley
for a narrated tour, highlighted by Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts
Village, Gallery Row and a stop at the famous Chapel of the
Holy Cross. A full day of leisure awaits you in Sedona, to
explore the eclectic art galleries and craft shops on your
own. How about an optional jeep tour of the Sedona backcountry
for a close up view of this desert terrain? And, be sure to
bring back a special drawing or other art collectible.
Oak Creek Canyon – Verde Canyon Railroad
Get ready for a scenic, leisurely ride over old-fashioned trestles,
past Indian ruins and through a 700-foot tunnel. You’ll travel First Class on the Verde
Canyon Railroad along an amazing track through canyon country. There are even
five open-air cars for your viewing pleasure. At night, you’ll chow down
in style with a chuckwagon supper at the Blazin’ M Ranch
and Western Stage Show.
