DAYS • 10 MEALS
Day
One – We’re Off
We head to Monroeville, Pennsylvania, for our first overnight
and a welcome dinner hosted by our Tour Manager. (Dinner)
Day Two – Arrive in Gettysburg
Travel across Pennsylvania and arrive in Gettysburg. Here we
spend three nights in a city steeped in American Civil War history.
In the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor
Center, we view the feature film, A New Birth of Freedom, which
will orient us to the Battle of Gettysburg and the American
Civil War. We also see the restored Cyclorama painting, The
Battle of Gettysburg, the largest painting in the country. There
is nothing quite like standing on the actual battlefield at
Gettysburg. A licensed guide joins us for an in-depth look at
this three-day battle. Tonight, dinner is at Dobbin House Tavern,
the oldest building in Gettysburg, which features historic furnishings
and costumed wait staff. Later, we are joined by Abe Lincoln,
our nation’s 16th President. Don’t forget your cameras!
(Breakfast
and dinner)
Day Three – Gettysburg Touring
Our local touring today begins at the Shriver House Museum,
dedicated to the civilian experience during the Battle of Gettysburg.
The home of George and Hettie Shriver appears much the way it
did when it was built in 1860, and period costumed guides recount
the harrowing story of the Shriver family during the battle.
In the David Wills House, then President Lincoln wrote portions
of his Gettysburg Address prior to leaving for Washington, DC
from the Historic Gettysburg Railroad Station. Just outside
Gettysburg is Hauser Estate Winery where a winery tour and wine
tasting completes our touring for the day. Tonight, dinner is
at Hickory Bridge Farm, where our meal is served family-style
in a restored 180-year-old barn decorated with farm antiques.
Be sure to check out the country store and farm museum. (Breakfast
and dinner)
Day
Four – Lancaster and Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre
Driving through scenic Lancaster County today is like a step
back in time. This is Amish country where one-room schoolhouses,
Amish farms and homes dot the landscape. Today we escape the
big city with a visit to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. Here,
you’ll enjoy a filling buffet lunch before being entertained
by the finest Broadway-caliber performers in the region. Find
yourself surrounded by laughter, love and mayhem as the theatre
enters its 23rd year. Past productions have included Singin’
in the Rain, Ring of Fire and The Wedding Singer. (Breakfast
and lunch)
Day Five – Eisenhower National Historic Site
This morning we pay a visit to the Eisenhower National Historic
Site, the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, which
served as weekend retreat and meeting place for world leaders.
Tour the home, enjoy a self-guided walk around the farm, or
visit the museum for films and artifacts from the Eisenhower
era. Later, we begin our journey home as we make our way west
across Pennsylvania. Tonight, our Tour Manager hosts a farewell
dinner. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day
Six – Travel Home
We continue home today with warm memories of the places we visited
and of the people we met along the way. (Breakfast)
