Days
One and Two – Travel to New York State
Our New England and Cape Cod adventure begins as we travel eastward
through Ohio and the wooded beauty of New York state. (Dinner
and breakfast)
Day Three – Newport, Rhode Island
Today we arrive in Newport, Rhode Island. This fascinating seaport
is famous not only for its maritime history, but for the fabulous
summer homes built there during America’s glamorous “Gilded
Age.” We’ll visit the Vanderbilt’s Breakers
Mansion, one of Newport’s grandest summer “cottages”
and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial
preeminence in turn-of-the-century America. Later, we continue
on to Cape Cod and your hotel for the next three nights.(Breakfast)
Day Four – Martha’s Vineyard
This morning we ferry to the resort island of Martha’s
Vineyard, a playground for many rich and famous, including former
President Clinton. The island’s coast has astounding cliffs
at Gay Head with spectacular shoreline views. We visit the village
of Edgartown with its gingerbread cottages and narrow streets.
As the sun sets this evening, we’ll prepare for a delicious
lobster dinner - a New England tradition and the perfect close
to this unforgettable day. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day
Five – Ride the Cape Cod Central Railroad
Climb aboard the Cape Cod Central Railroad and feel the rhythm
of the train and the spirit of the crew as you are whisked away
on an exhilarating rail journey. You’ll pass beautiful
cranberry bogs, natural woodlands, lush marches and beautiful
sand dunes as you make your way to the quaint village of Sandwich.
With the depot located in the heart of this historic Cape Cod
village, you are within easy walking distance of shopping, dining
and even a museum. Later, enjoy some free time in Hyannis. Stroll
down Main Street and visit the many stores and shops which line
the street. You may wish to stop at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis
Museum, whose exhibit features over 80 photographs of John F.
Kennedy, his family, his friends and the Cape Cod he so dearly
loved. (Breakfast)
Day
Six – Plymouth Rock and Boston City Tour
We stop at historic Plymouth Rock, where our forefathers first
landed on American soil, for a brief visit this morning. This
is also home of the Mayflower II, a replica of the original
ship which you may wish to visit on your own. In Boston, over
350 years of history await you on a sightseeing tour of the
birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts. We’ll explore
Boston’s Freedom Trail, from the Public Garden to the
Old North Church, and from Bunker Hill to Boston Common. Enjoy
free time for lunch at Faneuil Hall before continuing on to
Maine. (Breakfast)
Day Seven – Kennebunkport and the White Mountains
After breakfast, visit Kennebunkport, one of Maine’s coastal
jewels and the summer home to many of America’s rich and
famous. Adorned with stately homes, Kennebunkport seems to wait
breathlessly for its captains to return from sea. Later, we
head west through the beautiful Lakes Region of Maine and into
New Hampshire where the massive peaks of the White Mountain
range rise in all their splendor. Mount Washington, the highest
mountain on the eastern seaboard is capped with snow throughout
most of the year, and its fierce climate has seen the highest
recorded winds in the world - up to 220 mph. Later this afternoon,
we check into our New Hampshire hotel for the next two nights.
(Breakfast and dinner)
Day Eight – Conway Scenic Railroad
Board the Conway Scenic Railroad today for a journey through
the White Mountains. The restored historic railcars are powered
by diesel and electric locomotives and offer the comfort of
riding in either open or enclosed passenger cars. You’ll
enjoy the scenery of the Mt. Washington Valley countryside and
relive a part of railroad history as you travel through the
fields and woodlands. Spend your free time today in North Conway
with its quaint downtown and excellent outlet shopping. (Breakfast)
Day Nine – New Hampshire and Vermont
We’ll travel along the scenic Kancamagus Highway and enjoy
the beautiful autumn foliage before passing through Franconia
Notch where the “Old Man of the Mountain,” a rock
formation whose profile has long been New Hampshire’s
state symbol, once stood. We’ll stop at Maple Grove Farms
for a tour and learn about “the whole sugaring experience.”
In Vermont, pass through quaint villages where the steeples
of white clapboard churches rise above the colorful trees before
arriving in at our hotel and gathering with our fellow companions
for dinner this evening. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Ten – Saratoga Springs, New York
This morning we tour historic Saratoga Springs, New York, whose
rich architectural, cultural and landscape heritage is alive
today. We’ll see the historic neighborhood and homes of
the “Rich and Famous,” the famed racetrack and more.
Later, we continue on to Buffalo and a farewell dinner hosted
by your Tour Manager. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Eleven – Home
We travel home today with fond memories of our New England and
Cape Cod vacation. (Breakfast)
