Our
Ohio sightseeing begins at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential
Center, the country’s 19th president and the first to
take the oath of office in the White House. Walk through the
museum and tour the house both filled with a fabulous collection
of Hayes’ personal affects from Civil War weapons to 19th-century
toys.
A
ferry from the mainland over to South Bass Island and the town
of Put-in-Bay. A tram takes us for a guided tour of the island
with a stop at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, the Antique
Car Museum as well as the Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum
which focuses on island life. Be sure to stop at the Perry Peace
Memorial and Visitors Center commemorating one of the biggest
victories during the War of 1812.
Traveling
through Michigan on our way home, we stop at the W.K. Kellogg
Manor House. The meticulously restored estate of the cereal
giant features leaded stained glass windows, hand-carved oak
woodwork and beautiful tile work.
