Day
One – Begin Our Journey South
We’re off on a southern charms adventure to small towns
and gracious cities along the Atlantic Ocean! Join your travel
companions this evening for a welcome dinner. (Dinner)
Day
Two – Cowboys & Indians
After breakfast, our destination today is Cartersville, Georgia,
rich in Civil War and Native American historic sites. We visit
the Booth Western Art Museum, featuring Civil War art, western
movie posters and the Presidential Gallery. (Breakfast)
Day
Three – Gone With the Wind
Our journey continues in Georgia, legendary land of Gone With
the Wind. Look back at an era made famous by Margaret Mitchell’s
novel at the Road to Tara Museum with its original props, reproduction
costumes and photo gallery from the writing of the book and
making of the movie. Then we arrive in Savannah, Georgia’s
first city, and take a narrated trolley to see this elegant
and refined yet secretive and seductive city. From our hotel
in the heart of the Historic District, Savannah will captivate
you with her natural beauty, eccentric charm and traditional
Southern hospitality. Tonight we experience old-time family-style
dining at Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room. The late Sema Wilkes
is a Savannah legend, famous for her Southern cooking and hospitality,
which continues today through her family and restaurant. (Breakfast
and dinner)
Day
Four – The Golden Isles
Today we travel down the coast to the southernmost island of
Georgia’s Golden Isles, Jekyll Island. Once an exclusive
winter retreat for America’s wealthiest families, Jekyll
Island welcomes us. Enjoy a tram tour of the Historic District
that reveals the fascinating story of the island. We top off
our visit with a Southern lunch at the exclusive Jekyll Island
Club Hotel. Next we travel to St. Simons Island, the largest
of the islands, with its remarkable beauty and fascinating history.
In 1736, General James Oglethorpe established Georgia’s
first military outpost here, Fort Frederica. Tonight we’re
in for a treat with a Broadway-style production at the Historic
Savannah Theatre, the nation’s oldest continually operating
theatre. Hum the night away as we enjoy the high-energy production
of Southern Nights, two hours of music, dance and comedy.

Day
Five – Historic Savannah
This morning it’s off to Tybee Island to visit the lighthouse
that has been the guardian of the Savannah River since 1736.
We visit the museum that features exhibits of early life on
the island, and if you are feeling adventurous, take the exhilarating
walk up the 154-foot-tall lighthouse. Later, the streets of
Savannah are waiting to be discovered at your own leisurely
pace. Your Tour Manager will make suggestions for things to
do in this city of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and
Forrest Gump fame. Tonight, the evening is also free for you
to uncover some of Savannah’s secrets on your own. (Breakfast)
Day
Six – The Charm of Charleston
This morning we travel to one of the most beautiful and historic
cities in America, Charleston, South Carolina. History will
come alive as we travel along the quaint streets lined with
antebellum homes and glorious gardens that peek out from behind
300-year-old iron gates. Our guided tour will take us to the
famous “Battery at the Harbor,” which overlooks
Fort Sumter, where the Civil War erupted. Enjoy the Old Market
and Exchange with some free time on your own. (Breakfast)
Day
Seven – Taste of Kentucky
Our travels today take us to Berea, the folk arts and craft
capital of Kentucky. We visit the Kentucky Artisan Center where
you can shop for local products, experience their hospitality
and explore Kentucky crafts. Tonight, enjoy our farewell dinner
at the historic Boone Tavern. Built in 1909, the Boone Tavern
was meant to accommodate visitors to Berea College. (Breakfast
and dinner)
Day
Eight – Homeward Bound
We continue home today with wonderful memories of discovering
the Secrets of Savannah. (Breakfast)
